Roatan

Roatán is one of Honduras’s Caribbean Bay Islands. Part of the huge Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, it’s known for its beaches, dive sites and marine life. In the southwest is busy West Bay Beach, with a coral reef near the shore, which is number 2 diving/snorkeling after Great Barrier Reef in Australia. We had looked forward to a week of snorkeling among tropical fish and corals. Unfortunately just before we arrived, a big storm had come by Roatan, and do to that the visibility in the water was bad. We did have one good snorkeling day, and it was quite spectacular, and defiantly something to come back for. One of the first day at the island, we walked about 1 mile down the beach to West Bay, where these next photos are from.

adventure

If you are not into diving or snorkeling, or if you like us had bad visibility issues, Roatan have many other things for you to do. We went zip-lining, swimming with dolphins, and visited an animal park with iguanas, parrots, monkeys, and turtles.

ibagari hotel

The hotel we stayed in was fabulous. Ibagari Hotel is small, 8 rooms, located on the beach, and so amazing. It's only 1 year old, and to quote their website "We want our guests to live an experience through art, gastronomy and nature in a space that celebrates life", and that is what Ibagari is all about. At first there was one other family staying there, but at the end we had the whole place to our self. This ment we got the royal treatment, everyone was so nice, helpful, and just wanted us to feel at home. We all did, and didn't want to leave, but all holiday's comes to and end.

I end this blog post from Roatan with a sunset, and maybe we will revisit this beautiful place again someday.
